THE COLOUR FIELD were formed during the Summer of 1983 by former Specials and Fun Boy Three vocalist, Terry Hall along with ex- Swinging Cats organist Toby Lyons, and bassist Karl Shale
The band released two singles during 1984, the eponymous 'The Colour Field' in January 1984, with a second 'Take' in July before hitting the studio with producer Hugh Jones to record this, their debut album. January 1985 saw the fruits of this with the release of their third single 'Thinking of You' , featuring guest vocalist Katrina Phillips, which got to number 12 in the UK singles charts. The album, Virgins and Philistines followed in April, also reaching number 12 in the UK album charts. A full UK tour followed to support the album along with an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival.
This 40th Anniversary Edition of the album has been remastered from the original 1/4" production tapes by Phil Kinrade at Air Studios, London and features a bonus disc with the non-album single The Colour Field along with a selection of b-sides collected together on vinyl for the first time.
